Wasabi 2.0 invites you to visit Proefcentrum Hoogstraten on March 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This free tour, conducted in English, has three objectives:
1. to discover Flemish research and cultivation practices;
2. to inspire each other;
3. to forge links for future partnerships.
The Proefcentrum Hoogstraten (PCH) is a Belgian applied research center specializing in greenhouse horticulture and small fruit crops, mainly tomatoes, peppers, and strawberries. Located in Hoogstraten, in the province of Antwerp, in the heart of a region historically known for producing high-quality strawberries and vegetables, the center plays a strategic role in agricultural innovation in Flanders and beyond.
Founded to support local producers, Proefcentrum Hoogstraten has gradually established itself as a center of technical and scientific expertise. Its main mission is to develop, test, and disseminate practical knowledge aimed at improving the profitability, sustainability, and quality of horticultural operations. The center's work focuses in particular on the cultivation of strawberries, tomatoes, peppers, and other high-value-added greenhouse crops.
The PCH conducts variety trials and research on substrates, fertigation, integrated pest management (IPM), and soilless cultivation techniques. Particular attention is paid to reducing inputs, optimizing energy and water consumption, and transitioning to more sustainable practices. In a context of increased regulatory and climate pressure, the center actively contributes to the horticultural sector's adaptation to environmental and economic challenges.
The Proefcentrum Hoogstraten works closely with producers, cooperatives, universities, technology suppliers, and public authorities. This collaborative approach ensures the rapid transfer of innovations to the field. The results of the trials are communicated via technical reports, demonstration days, training courses, and specialized publications.
Beyond research, the center acts as a platform for exchange and technology monitoring. It supports producers in the implementation of new varieties, innovative cultivation systems, and climate and health monitoring tools. This proximity to farms ensures that research is focused on concrete and directly applicable solutions.
